The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources has released a study on the initial economic impact of natural gas exploration in the Haynesville Shale indicating several billion dollars generated by the activity in the area.
Ground Water Use Advisory: Commissioner of Conservation Recommends Wise Water Use Planning in the Haynesville Shale
Commissioner of Conservation Jim Welsh recommends that oil and gas operators with interest in developing the Haynesville Shale in Northwest Louisiana choose their water sources for use in drilling or hydraulic fracture stimulation operations wisely. Of particular interest are areas in the lower Caddo and Bossier Parishes and DeSoto Parish where the Carrizo – Wilcox aquifer is used as the main source of drinking water supply for domestic and public water supplies.
Louisiana CIAP Plan: First plan to get federal completeness review
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary Scott Angelle announced today that officials with the U.S. Department of Interior, Minerals Management Service (MMS) have given a stamp of approval on the “completeness review” of the state’s Coastal Impact Assistance Plan or CIAP Plan. Angelle said this means that Louisiana is the first eligible coastal state to achieve plan completeness.

Pre-opening look at Atchafalaya Welcome Center on I-10
Officials of the state departments of Natural Resources, Transportation and Development, and Culture, Recreation and Tourism and Wildlife and Fisheries held a pre-opening review of the new Atchafalaya Welcome Center on Friday, December 19, 2003. The pre-opening visit allowed elected and appointed officials a chance to walk-through the construction areas as well as discuss the status of the project.

Pipeline Map and Database Produced for State
The U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS) and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) signed a cooperative agreement two years ago, to produce a map and maintain a database of pipelines in the offshore waters of the state of Louisiana. MMS and DNR have now completed the project which involved many man-hours, research, and GIS (geographic information systems) expertise.
